The correspondence, which reflects a friendship with Alma Mahler and Franz Werfel, touches on aspects of the emigration of Paul and Jella to the U.S.; their subsequent life in New York City (including concerts attended) and contact with other émigrés; their financial worries; and Paul Stefan's professional work, often with reference to his contacts with publishers. Among the projects Stefan mentions are translations of previous books; his edited volume of letters of Verdi (jointly with Werfel); a review of Werfel's novel The Song of Bernadette; and a proposed biography of Werfel. The letter to Korner (here spelled Körner) appears to concern the latter's mediation in Stefan's requesting a loan from Alma and Franz. Included is a clipping of an article by Stefan, "Lidice: Der Gipfel der Nazi-Verbrechen," published in the New York-based German-language weekly Neue Volkszeitung, in 1942.
